NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The technique of "social video" -- the use of video as the central organizing element for social interaction and storytelling online -- is beginning to demonstrate its power. In this second part of our "About Digital" report on the latest trends in viral video, we analyze Samsung's "HD Camera Phone Trick." That YouTube clip was created and produced for Samsung Mobile by London's Viral Factory. Its traffic and engagement patterns were tracked and analyzed by Visible Measures. They may tell us a lot about the future of online advertising.

It's simply a matter of asking people which do they prefer - reading text on a computer screen or watching a video and which would you trust first? I think most people will answer yes to both of these questions.

Kudos Samsung. Fantastic piece of marketing.

I think every single brand must have a online video distribution strategy. Today consumers share video to endorse products and define themselves as consumers-- 'I'm cools b'c I know about this video'. Therefore every brand must decide what kinds of video tools they should give their consumers.

This was a really cool way to grab attention for this product. It dares you to find out how they did it and honestly I thought hmmph, maybe I should buy that. And every marketer wants their audience to think, say and do just that. Very nice.

Social video marketing has always been preferred to text by the masses even though it hasn't always been around online, there have been signs offline. For example, in general, people have always preferred watching tv over reading a book. Yes, there are exceptions but we are talking about the majority here. People who seize video opportunities like Adwido.com will always come out on top over those who attempt to defy the demands of the majority as evidenced by tradition.

Another trick to lure the short attention spanned American consumer. It is like dangling a piece of yarn in front of them, they will keep pawing at it, until they get tired (a shorter and shorter period every time). The ultimate question: will it sell units once they figure out it is another elaborate trick?
