Pokemon rage creates a stir

Not since Godzilla has a Japanese monster caused such a stir. Pokemon -- which translates into pocket monster -- was the must-have toy of 1999. Throughout the year, Nintendo of America's Pokemon videogames flew off store shelves faster than you can say "Pikachu." Pokemon costumes were all the rage this Halloween, and by the holiday season, Pokemon books, plush toys and trading cards were fueling retail sales. When the "Pokeman" movie was released on a November weekday, it prompted thousands of star-struck children to call out sick from school with the "Pokemon flu."
