A new weblog devoted to exploring the creative playground that is New York is among a series of initiatives from the New York Council of the Four A's designed to put creativity on the front burner in the ad industry's biggest market. The blog, created by New York-based marketing services agency Electric Artists is an online community-building component of a three-pronged assault on creative complacency by the agency organization. The council is also organizing a series of talks by creative luminaries from different disciplines, as well as training programs for creatives in areas like selling big creative ideas, and, for clients, recognizing and fostering those ideas. "The overriding issue is the quality of work," says Four A's New York Council chairman Rob Quish. "We wanted New York to be known as the center of great creativity - to be known as the best and not just the biggest."

The blog, launching as this issue goes to press, will rally the creative community and mine the inspiration potential to be found in all areas of New York culture. "It's a great tool to expose people to different creative inspirations, both in the city and in terms of what's available on the web," says Quish. The blog is structured to incorporate a guest curator every month, as well as an array of content that will be posted at the launch of the site, which will evolve as community participation grows, says Electric Artists CEO Marc Schiller. Curators will be plugged-in industry insiders who will share their own recommendations and insights into New York's best (and undiscovered) art, music, film, events, neighborhoods - whatever stimulates the creative glands. What it's not, says Schiller is a city guide; neither is it a showcase for advertising work, says Quish. "We want to instigate new thinking at the front end of creative thinking, in the inspiration stage. Realizing that New York is the foremost creative center in the world, we want the city to expose people to things they might not think about or see- to create interesting sparks for their work."
