It's a paperback cartoon double feature! Makin' Toons (Allworth Press, $21.95), by Alan Neuwirth, whose many animation credits include writing for the completely insane Courage the Cowardly Dog, is an extremely readable survey of the animation scene, with chapters on the creation of just about every recent animated phenomenon you can think of from TV and the movies, including salutes to producers, composers and voice talents. Seen here is the cover illustration, by Bill Wray. Outlaw Animation: Cutting Edge Cartoon From the Spike & Mike Festivals (yes, that's Danny Antonucci's beloved Lupo the Butcher on the cover) is a $23.95 Abrams book, by animation historian Jerry Beck. The title about says it all, but the 200 color images really make it sing.
