VH1 has Behind the Music, and advertising, thankfully, has books like this: from Rockport Press (rockport.com) comes a $50 hardcover called Design Secrets: Advertising, in which Lisa Hickey, founder/CEO of Boston agency Velocity, goes behind the scenes to look at 50 of the best campaigns released since 1997. The thorough analyses include original sketches, storyboards, strategy sheets, budgets, client reactions, measureable results and plenty of insight from creatives. From Bud's "Whassup?" to MasterCard's "Priceless," it's all here. Even campaigns one can't stand are fascinating when they're scrutinized in this fashion.
