"I started out as a design major at the School of Visual Arts, where I became intrigued with the creative possibilities of mixing and matching different textures and started experimenting with the process of combining media. At first I worked a lot with tape, photography and type, but I soon found my niche with ink and watercolor. And since I've been figure drawing for as long as I can remember, it seemed only natural to incorporate that as well. My subjects range from everything from a retro-Nike sneaker, to ex-girlfriends, to photographs. All have some sort of personal significance to me. For me, the great thing about these paintings is that, contrary to advertising, I can spend hours working on them and I'm guaranteed to have something to show for it. No one's going to kill my work but me, and I'm not going to be a dick about it either." - Jayson Atienza (atienza29@hotmail.com)
