I was wasting some time on Twitter this weekend when someone retweeted the following from BPGlobalPR: "Really worried about the effect this disaster will have on bikini season. The sun is still shining ladies, get outt there!"
I may not understand the finale of "Lost," but I didn't have to read any more tweets to know that this was a fake account. BP may have become the face of all that is evil, but no way would its PR department be that callous. Still, I clicked over anyway to see how twisted this person was. Pretty twisted.
Not only is the responsible party posting tweets that parody both the oil industry and the spin industry -- as "Negative people view the ocean as half empty of oil. We are dedicated to making it half full" and "If we had a dollar for every complaint about this oil spill, it wouldn't compare to our current fortune. Oil is a lucrative industry!" -- he or she is selling t-shirts. That seemed like just a part of the ongoing joke at first, but there seem to be real shirts now.
