Yukon Cornelius, The Abominable Snowman and even the wanna-be-dentist elf, Hermie, are all available for commercial and print--so long as it is tasteful. Lest you, like me, are worried that your favorite holiday characters will sell out to shill toothpaste and airlines, Jonathan Flom, principal, Character Arts assured me that they have no interest in compromising the integrity of the characters:
"We want to keep Rudolph in the holiday season, but there are other characters like those from the Island of Misfit Toys, which have potential to be used at other times of the year. But, we will turn down any offers that aren't tasteful."
The irony here is that Rudolph was created in 1939 as an advertising icon for Montgomery Ward. I guess you can go home again.
