If you are looking to intake a lot of calories at a discounted price, or if you are looking for stocking stuffers but are too lazy to go shopping, take advantage of today's LivingSocial deal. The No. 2 daily deal company teamed up with McDonald's to offer members a $13 voucher booklet for five individual Big Macs and five individual large french fries (a $26 value).
For those who are counting, that 's a total of 2,700 calories (540 each), 145 grams (29 grams each, or 45% of the daily recommended amount) of fat and 5,200 mg of sodium (1,040 mg each, or 43% of the recommended daily amount)...just for the Big Macs. For five orders of fries, it's 2,500 calories (500 each), 125 grams (25 grams each, or 38% of the recommended amount) of fat and 1,750 mg (350 mg each, 15% of the daily amount) of sodium. We're sure McDonald's critics are going to love those numbers.
The deal is the first national daily offer by a fast-food chain, but it's capped at 1 million booklets. Daily deal coupons are often printable, but McDonald's will mail the vouchers instead. As part of the deal, the chain will also promote LivingSocial in restaurants and drive-thrus.
"Both LivingSocial members and McDonald's customers are looking for delicious food at a great value, and this deal hits the sweet spot for both personal purchases and holiday gifts," said Peter Sterling, VP-marketing, McDonald's USA, in a statement. As for why McDonald's chose LivingSocial, a spokeswoman for McDonald's said, "While we evaluated a number of different providers, LivingSocial was the best option for our system," but did not provide additional detail. She added that while the company will "continue to evaluate future opportunities, there is nothing immediately planned."
