Predicting the Future ... From the Past

Great find on Boing Boing today. Predictions of the Year 2000 from The Ladies Home Journal of December 1900.

Yes, in the future (or our immediate past, as the case may be) all produce will be very large, we will no longer use the letter C, travel to England will take only two days and air ships will be things used mostly for war.

This was my favorite, if only because it's the exact opposite of the so-called obesity epidemic: Gymnastics will begin in the nursery, where toys and games will be designed to strengthen the muscles. Exercise will be compulsory in the schools. Every school, college and community will have a complete gymnasium. All cities will have public gymnasiums. A man or woman unable to walk ten miles at a stretch will be regarded as a weakling.
