Republicans have been calling for O'Donnell's head not because of her war on Donald Trump, but because she's lately been spouting off at the mouth that 9/11 was an inside job and that British sailors and marines purposely went into Iranian waters to start a war. She called the latter a "Gulf of Tonkin" moment. As to the former, she also claimed the collapse of 7 World Trade Center was the first time in history that fire melted steel -- a claim so ridiculous that Popular Mechanics felt a need to weigh in on the subject.
But those who'd like to take down Rosie so far don't seem to have the political or vocal or organizing power of an Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. I'd also point out that making ludicrous comments in a policy/political argument is much different than making racist/sexist comments about college kids. (Perhaps the Rosie's biggest tactical blunder so far has been defending Imus.)
Tom DeLay, Bill O'Reilly and others have joined the fight, but so far to no avail. And the AOL poll should be taken with a bucket of salt. Drudge and right-of-center bloggers are driving traffic, which is no doubt skewing results.
