Lexus' Loss Is Mitsubishi's Gain

Luxury Car's Booted Voice Talent Lands a New Gig

By Published on .

Well it didn't take long for James Sloyan to land another gig. The only ad narrator for Lexus since it arrived in 1989 was recently cut loose by Toyota's lux brand and its agency, Team One. But Mitsubishi Motors North America said it signed Sloyan last week and started testing radio ads with his distinctive voice in several of its top markets.

Expect to hear more Sloyan stumping for Mitsubishi. A spokesman for the automaker said the radio spots are just the start of a much larger campaign.

How did this happen?

Probably not a coincidence that Tom Cordner, now co-chairman of Mitsubishi's creative shop, Traffic, Los Angles, toiled for many years of his career as the top creative on Lexus at Team One.

Mr. Cordner didn't return calls and neither Mitsubishi's Francine Harsini, director of advertising, nor Frances Oda, director of marketing, were available.

Stay tuned.
