Sorrell Tries to Give Publicis an Esteem Complex

By Published on .

Meow! Apparently WPP Chief Martin Sorrell isn't happy about all the press his "frenemy" Google and rival holding company Publicis are getting for a new collaboration in which they'll exchange execs.

When Sorrell, in Davos for the World Economic Forum, was asked by a Reuters reporter about WPP's "esteemed rival Publicis" and its deal with Google, he interrupted to say, "I think our most esteemed rival is Omnicom."

He then made a joke about a ridiculously vague press release Publicis sent out earlier this week about Publicis Chairman-CEO Maurice Levy's meeting with Google CEO Eric Schmidt .

"Next time I meet with Eric Schmidt . . . I think we'll send out a press release . . . or maybe I should send out a press release like this morning, I met with Maurice Levy. Does this mean we're putting a joint venture together with Publicis and WPP?"
