New York Times Stock Dips Lower Than Sunday Times

Would It Make a Good Fish Wrapper?

By Published on .

How rough are these times in the newspaper trade? So bad that shares in the New York Times Co. on Friday slumped to a low of $3.99, less than the price of the Sunday paper. (They closed at $4.06.) The stock is down 45% year to date (and down 92% from its 2002 all-time peak).

Shares in newspaper colossus Gannett Co. on Friday slumped to a low of $4.17, down 48% this year. McClatchy Co. (Miami Herald and other papers)? You can buy a share for 58 cents.

If that's more than you can handle, then go for a share of Chicago's Sun-Times Media Group. That will cost you 4 cents (change you can believe in).
