Wanted: Skills In Obfuscation

As if it is any great surprise, yet another company (in this case Sony via their viral marketing agency Zipatoni) has tried to pass off a blog as non-paid-for word-of-mouth.

Both PSP World and Engadget have called out the "All I Want For Xmas is a PSP" blog as a complete fake. The ads are too slick, they complain, and the blog's registration is too easily traced to Zipatoni. Sigh. Now that the FTC has backed off from any further regulations for word-of-mouth marketing, it looks like I'm going to have to start telling my friends "this product endorsement was NOT paid for" on the few occasions I bother to tell them about something I like.
