Want a brand-new Jetta for six-grand?

In a first for the flash sales property, Gilt will sell one Volkswagen for $10,000 less than its starting price per day for three days starting Wednesday.

"Volkswagen is the first automotive brand to be sold on Gilt, or any flash sale site in the U.S.," according to a statement from the companies. Volkswagen couldn't be immediately reached for comment. Gilt, the brand that's popularized the flash sale phenomena where a site's members can buy limited-availability discounted products during tight time frames was an Ad Age America's Hottest Brand in 2009.

Starting at noon eastern time, one 2011 Jetta will go on sale for $5,995. On Dec. 15th, the first day of the sale, the car will only be available through Gilt mobile apps for Apple and Android devices. On the two remaining days, the sale will extend to the website. The effort is part of the car maker's "Great for the Price of Good" push.

Gilt Groupe, a three-year-old New York startup, is known for its insider deals on high fashion; offering steeply-discounted car as a promo will generate notice outside its core audience of fashionistas.

"Partnering with Gilt was a natural fit for Volkswagen as both brands have customers who value style, sophistication, and quality products at an attainable price," said Tim Ellis, Vice President of Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc, in the statement.
