New on AdAge.com every Monday: Our Top 10 Foursquare "check-in" chart that tracks how major brand merchants are faring in the exploding Location-Based Services (LBS) space. We're producing this exclusive chart with our editorial partner Trendrr, the real-time business intelligence tracking service that was created by New York digital agency Wiredset.
It was a pretty strong week for check-ins overall. Clearly people are out getting their final Christmas shopping done. Most retailers posted gains over the prior week, but the fluctuation continues. Last week we took a drill-down look at the big Starbucks check-in markets. This week, we'll look at McDonald's. The largest markets overall are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Dallas. And, hey, let's keep going. Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Detroit and Milwaukee round out the top 10. If you scale the results based on population it brings up a lot of markets you don't see on many top 10 lists. Lafayette, IN, Lansing, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, MI, Dayton, OH, Paducah, KY, Charlottesville, VA, Wichita Falls, TX, Bowling Green, OH, and Tallahassee. That's an interesting group of markets for Foursquare penetration, isn't it?
This chart is updated each Monday morning and reflects the seven-day period ending Sunday night at midnight EST.
