"People check out new music and watch short films online more than ever before," says Teddy Lynn, executive producer of Arnold Entertainment Group. "And artists, particularly those who are new or unsigned, are using the web to market themselves. For New Orleans musicians in particular, the web makes sense because much New Orleans music is not mainstream enough to gain national radio play—the internet provides an alternative with broad reach, and for low cost. Many New Orleans musicians play live a great deal, and their audiences are used to going to the web for information about when and where they play. That means they already have a dialogue with their audience which they can build on with streaming music and video."
The films, which feature a mix of live performance footage and candid interviews, can be viewed at a website created by McKinney + Silver, where visitors can click on various stickers on a guitar case to check out bios of the various musicians and purchase a compilation CD of selected songs. The site also encourages donations to the Southern Comfort Music Fund, which benefits the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund and New Orleans Area Habitat For Humanity.
