Parisienne Cigarettes "Parisienne People"

Published on .

There's no agency attached to this spot from Switzerland because the Coen brothers, who directed, thought it up themselves. That probably explains why among their commercials, it's the closest thing we've seen yet to their films, given the inexplicably odd performances and absurd scenario. A dandy producer type sits alone in a theater, taking a nonchalant drag of his cigarette, when he slowly becomes entranced by the resolutely eager song and dance of a man on stage in Jerry Lewis-evoking drag. We don't really know what kind of point this is trying to make, but it gets our applause for most entertaining weirdness of the year.
