Each spot produced by the Fallon-PBS partnership bears a wonderful and terrible burden, that of following in the footsteps of some of the finest ads of the last several years, like "Light" and "Photobooth." "Puppet" does not disappoint. There's something especially soul-stirring in the mini-tale of a marionette who, animated by the spirit of self-determination, cuts himself loose from his puppet masters, living up to the end line which urges us to "Be More-Independent." Director Scott Hicks has distinguished himself this year with some great-looking and great-feeling work, and he gives this spot power with zero cheese added.
