The Fly a Kite Foundation has released a new national ad campaign featuring Joe Girardi, manager of the New York Yankees. The ad, which features Mr. Girardi talking to the camera against a black background, is set to the track "Almost Home" by Moby. The campaign was created by Stein IAS, Fly a Kite's agency of record. See the spot below:
The public service announcement aims to raise awareness for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a type of brain tumor that affects mainly children and has an average survival rate of just nine months. David Bernstein founded Fly a Kite after his son Zachary, a big Yankees fan, passed away from DIPG in March 2014 at age 11. Mr. Bernstein had served in several different roles at Ad Age's parent company, Crain Communications.
The foundation has several goals. It aims to fund scientific research to find a cure for pediatric brain cancers, provide custom art care packages for children with brain tumors, and provide guidance for parents.
"No child should have to deal with cancer of any kind, let alone a cancer as devastating as DIPG," Mr. Girardi said in a statement. "As a father, I understand the importance of protecting our children. What the Bernstein family went through is unimaginable, and I am proud to support such a meaningful cause. I hope someday researchers will find a cure and we can see all these smiling faces at the ball field."
