WPP scored first in new business in May and year to date, according to a tally by Bear Stearns' Alexia Quadrani. Interpublic fell to last place in May from the top slot in April, but it's still second year to date.

Focus on: HAVAS (HAVS)

It's been downhill from the start for Havas, which peaked on its U.S. debut when it bought Snyder Communications on Sept. 26, 2000, a day before trading began in its American Depositary Shares. Business challenges set the stage for investor Vincent Bollore to take control. Havas voluntarily delisted its U.S. shares effective July 7 after board resignations put it in noncompliance with Nasdaq audit-committee requirements.1
