SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Circuit City Stores, in the midst of a sales slump, is conducting a review for a promotions agency and a public relations agency, a company spokesman said.

Finalists in the public relations review are independents Carter Ryley Thomas, Richmond, Va.; Stanton Crenshaw Communications, New York; and two Washington agencies, Omnicom Group’s Fleishman-Hillard and WPP Group’s Ogilvy PR Worldwide, Circuit City spokesman Bill Cimino said.

Mr. Cimino said he also is looking for a public relations agency to help with the retailer’s in-house operation with strategy and with lining up vendors for business opportunities.

The spokesman added that the electronics retailer is “happy” with its general market agency, Interpublic Group of Cos.’ Foote Cone & Belding Worldwide.

Circuit City earlier this month hired Sharp Partners, New York, to handle interactive advertising, replacing FCBi, a sibling of FCB.

The Richmond, Va.-based retailer is in the middle of a sales slump, which has forced it to close 19 superstores.
