NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Arnold Worldwide today said Andrew Benett, 38, will take over as its first global CEO, replacing 16-year agency veteran Fran Kelly. Mr. Kelly will move into the role of vice chairman, while Ed Eskandarian stays chairman.
The move comes as Arnold's parent, Havas, is attempting to grow Arnold -- the only creative network under the French holding company besides Euro RSCG -- in global markets. Mr. Benett was co-CEO of Euro RSCG, New York.
In June, David Jones, global CEO of Havas Worldwide and Euro RSCG Worldwide, and Mr. Kelly, then-CEO of Arnold Worldwide, together told Ad Age that they hoped to expand its global footprint to 10 countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Spain and Italy. In a statement today, Mr. Jones said: "We have big ambitions for Arnold as a global micronetwork, and I'm delighted to appoint Andrew to this new position to ensure we achieve them."
Mr. Jones, in a subsequent e-mail to Ad Age, said that the CEO change at Arnold wasn't a slight to Mr. Kelly. "The only reason we changed his title was to ensure clarity of roles for everyone," he said. "Fran remains a key part of the management team moving forward and will be important to Andrew's success as he knows the agency, the Boston market and Arnold's clients."
Clients of Arnold include: Ocean Spray, Hershey's, Panasonic and Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Pete Zillig, president of global brands for Euro RSCG Worldwide, is relocating from London to New York to succeed Mr. Benett as co-CEO of Euro RSCG, New York, with Jeff Brooks.
