The A's have heard presentations from eight agencies for their advertising account, according to executives familiar with the situation.
They include: Omnicom Group shops Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and TBWA/Chiat/Day, both San Francisco, independent Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore.; and the incumbent, Interpublic Group of Cos.' Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide, San Francisco.
One particularly interested party is Goodby Silverstein's co-chairman Jeff Goodby, an A's fan. He and Mr. Silverstein launched their careers creating the baseball team's famous "Billy Ball" campaign while working at WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide in the 1980s.
A decision is expected next week. A's executives did not return calls.
