AMERICAN AIRLINES CONSOLIDATES $80 MILLION ACCOUNT

Temerlin McClain, Universal McCann Get Work

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- American Airlines has moved responsibilities for creative advertising and media buying for its international business from Omnicom Group's DDB Worldwide to Interpublic Group of Cos.' Temerlin McClain and Universal McCann, according to executives close to the situation.

The international account is estimated to be worth $30 million.

According to Taylor Nelson Sofres' CMR, on its domestic business, American Airlines spent $82 million on measured media in 2000, dropping to $47 million in 2001 from January to October.

Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, is agency of record for the airline's domestic advertising business. Universal McCann, New York, handles buying for the domestic account.

Calls to the airline and to the agency were not returned at press time.
