NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Pharmaceutical giant Aventis has awarded a new Omnicom Group unit global marketing duties for its oncology drug brands.

The unit, called TAO (Team Aventis Oncology), is an integrated team pulled together from the holding companies' Diversified Agency Services unit. The team includes staff from public relations agency Porter Novelli and DDB Healthcare.

The assignment covers the U.S., Europe, Japan and other major markets, according to a statement issued by Diversified Agency Services this afternoon.

Spending was not disclosed though Aventis, based in Strasbourg, France, spent $300 million on combined advertising in 2002.
