McCann-Erickson, FCB Said to Participate in Pitch

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Blue Shield of California, San Francisco, has begun a search for an advertising agency, a number of agencies contacted by the health insurance nonprofit said.

Blue Shield last year spent $1.3 million in advertising in 2000, and $1.9 milion in first eight months of 2001, according to Nielson Taylor Sofres' CMR.

Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson, San Francisco is the incumbent, and it and sibling shop Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco, which handles the direct portion of the account, will participate in the pitch.
