"BPN continues to enjoy strong leadership in the US under President Liz Ross and the North American management team, as well as across key regions globally, supported by G14 CEO Jim Hytner and World Markets CEO Andrea Suarez," said a spokeswoman in an e-mail. "We are determining next steps as we look to fill the global role that Mauricio previously held."
After a relatively quiet stretch in terms of new business, BPN has picked up steam over the past year with wins like Morgan Stanley, which spent $26 million on domestic measured media in 2013, as well as Spanish toy company Famosa Toys. Morgan Stanley was previously with Publicis Groupe's Spark. BPN also won Hillshire Farms from Spark last year.
For Mr. Sabogal, the move is a return to a holding company he first joined in 1999 as president of the Andean region for Mindshare. He also held senior roles at Omnicom's OMD and Nielsen, where he started his career in Columbia in 1990.
His departure comes as Jacki Kelley relinquishes her top client role at IPG Mediabrands -- the group that oversees IPG's three media agencies, including BPN, UM and Initiative – and considers a role at IPG. She had been IPG Mediabrands' CEO for North America and president of global clients.
Mediabrands also recently hired Chris Loll from Wunderman to succeed North America COO Guy Beach, who was promoted to global chief commercial officer, and promoted Greg Walsh to global CFO from North American CFO, succeeding Jeff Lupinacci. Mr. Lupinacci recently left to take on a CFO role at Iconix Brand Group.
