CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- WPP Group's Y&R Advertising, Chicago, elevated Howard Breen to chairman-CEO of North America Regions from chairman-CEO of the Chicago office.

Mr. Breen will be in charge of Y&R offices in Chicago, San Francisco and Canada; the domestic and advertising functions of the agency's Miami and Detroit offices; and SicolaMartin, Bravo and Kang & Lee. He will continue his additional role of director of acquisitions and integration, North America.

He will report to Ed Vick, CEO of Y&R Advertising, as do Ron Bess, chairman-CEO of Y&R Advertising, New York, and David Murphy, president-CEO of Y&R Advertising, Irvine, Calif.

Succeeding Mr. Breen as chairman-CEO will be Kary McIlwain, currently president-chief operating officer of the Chicago office. Ms. McIlwain played a key role in landing several new business wins for the office, including the Sears, Roebuck & Co. branding assignment, and Jim Beam and Miller Brewing Co. new products work.

Mr. Breen, 45, joined Y&R in 1996 as managing director-chief operating officer of the Toronto office and was elevated to chairman-CEO of Y&R Canada in 1999. Later that year he became president-CEO of Y&R Chicago.

Ms. McIlwain, 42, joined Y&R Advertising, New York, in 1988, and moved to the Chicago office in 1996.
