Incumbent Grey Will Not Defend

SAN FRANCISCO ( -- City National Bank, Beverly Hills, Calif., a private and commercial bank targeting California entrepreneurs, placed its estimated $3 million to $4 million account into review.
City National Bank's ad account is worth between $3 million and $4 million.

Thomas R. Miller, executive vice president and director of marketing, called the review because he is interested in "expanded capabilities and new strategic thinking," a spokeswoman for the bank said. She declined to be more specific about the review's goals.

Grey won account in 2000
WPP Group's Grey Worldwide, Los Angeles, which won the account in 2000, is the incumbent. The agency said it will not defend the account, though City National's spokeswoman said the agency is invited to participate in the search.

Select Resources International, Santa Monica, Calif., will handle the review.

City National Bank, with 53 offices in California and one private bank office in New York, has been using a logo featuring a blue ladder along with the tagline "The way up." Ground Zero, Los Angeles, the bank's previous agency, helped develop the company's ladder logo.
