CVS OPENS REVIEW FOR MEDIA ACCOUNT

Pharmacy Chain Dropped Incumbent Bates Worldwide

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- CVS Corp. is reviewing its $35 million media buying and planning business, according to advertising executives in the review.

The Woonsocket, R.I.-based marketer recently sent out request for proposals to a number of undisclosed shops.

Cordiant Communications Group's Bates Worldwide before the agency's media operations and all its account were folded into Optimedia, which is owned jointly by Cordiant and Publicis Groupe.

A CVS spokesman did not return phone calls by press time.

The pharmacy chain awarded its creative and relationship marketing account to Interpublic Group of Cos.' Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston, last month.

CVS said it plans an aggressive ad campaign this year as it opens more stores nationwide.
