The account will be handled by Deutsch's full-service media division, DeutschMedia. The agency first worked on the business from mid-2005 to 2007. DeVito/Verdi had handled the account since 2007.
In addition, the Englewood, Colo.-based retailer has also handed Deutsch its public-relations assignment. MWWGroup@Deutsch, a partnership between the agency and Interpublic sibling PR shop MWW Group, will handle that work.
Sports Authority, which awarded the account to DeutschMedia without a review, spent $48 million on U.S. measured media in 2007, according to TNS Media Intelligence.
Sports Authority operates 454 stores in 45 states.
