Satellite Carrier Has Contacted Six Agencies

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- EchoStar Communications' DISH Network, facing stiff competition from cable companies as well as No. 1 satellite carrier DirecTV, has begun a review for a branding agency, a company spokesman said.

About a half dozen agencies have been contacted regarding the review, according to a number of executives familiar with the situation.

EchoStar, based in Englewood, Colo., spent $87.7 million in measured media for the first 11 months of 2003, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Rival DirecTV shifted its $115 million account without a review in late February from Interpublic's Deutsch to Omnicom Group's BBDO Worldwide.
