NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Expedia has awarded its $170 million creative account to independent Doner, Southfield, Mich., according to executives familiar with the situation.

Doner bested Omnicom Group's TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., and Interpublic Group of Cos.' Mullen, Wenham, Mass., in the review for the travel website's business. The previous agency was Interpublic's Deutsch, Marina del Rey, Calif, which did not defend.

An early round of pruning saw Interpublic's McCann Erickson and WPP's Berlin Cameron United cut from the review.

The agencies and either couldn't be reached or declined to comment. An Expedia spokesman couldn't be reached for comment.

The win is a major one for Doner, which has stumbled of late, with losses that include Six Flags and Circuit City.
