Mike Buchner, chief operating officer at Fallon in Minneapolis and a 27-year vet of the shop, is taking over as CEO of the Publicis Groupe agency's U.S. operations, effective next week.
The moves comes as Chris Foster, who has served as Fallon CEO since 2008 and helped the agency attract clients and gain a more stable footing in the past couple of years, is returning to Asia. He earlier served as Saatchi & Saatchi's CEO for the Japan and Korea region, and now he has been named Publicis Groupe chairman and regional CEO of Saatchi's Asia Pacific operations.
Kevin Roberts, chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Group, in a statement called Mr. Buchner "an outstanding communications professional who after several senior management roles at Fallon , segues naturally into the lead. Mike has been a pivotal player in the agency's 'A-list' position and he will provide a formidable mix of stability, growth, and vision."
Mr. Buchner joined Fallon in 1984, three years after it opened its doors in Minneapolis. Since that time, he has been a quiet but steady force, serving as director of account management, general manager and, most recently, chief operating officer. Mr. Buchner's brother, Rob , serves as chief marketing officer at the agency.
Fallon 's roster of clients includes Cadillac, H&R Block, Nestle Purina, Nestle Beverages, NBC Universal, Travelers, General Mills, Charter Communications, Nordstrom, the Ladders and the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
