SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Privately held convenience chain Wawa Inc., has narrowed its review for an advertising agency to eight semifinalists, according to the review consultant.

Spending undisclosed
A final decision in the review is expected in mid-January. Spending on the account was undisclosed, but the chain spent $5.1 million in measured media in 2002, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., is conducting the review.

Wawa's creative incumbent was Ritter, King of Prussia, Pa., for creative. Ritter chose not to defend.

Select Resources said that the client will look at the media capabilities of the finalists and decide whether to go with the creative agency for media or open a separate media review.

MayoSteitz Media, Blue Bell, Pa., is the media incumbent.
