GROCERY CHAIN WAWA OPENS CREATIVE, MEDIA REVIEW

Ad Incumbent Ritter out; MayoSteitz Media to Participate

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Privately held grocery chain Wawa Inc. has launched a review for its creative and media account.

Wawa's chief marketing officer, Rob Price, said in a news release the brand, known for its fresh dairy products and hoagies, is looking for an "agency partner who understands the deep personal connection we have with our customers and can make this come to life in our advertising."

Billings not disclosed
Billings on the review were not disclosed, but the chain spent $5.1 million in measured media in 2002 and $1.9 million from January through June of this year, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Wawa's longtime ad agency was Ritter, based in King of Prussia, Pa.

Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., which is conducting the review, indicated that Ritter will not participate, while WaWa's media incumbent, MayoSteitz Media, will take part in the review.
