Horizon was tapped by Atlanta-based Earthlink to handle direct response and general market media planning and buying as the Internet service provider consolidates its $40 to $50 million media account. The assignment covers Earthlink's dial-up, broadband and MailStation products. The account moved without a review.

Horizon has been handling Earthlink's direct response buying since August 2001. StarLink, Chicago, a unit of Publicis Groupe's Starcom Worldwide, had been Earthlink's general market media planning and buying agency. Creative will remain with LB Works, part of Publicis' Leo Burnett USA, Chicago. Earthlink's account will be serviced out of Horizon's New York office.
In addition, the Church of Scientology International selected Horizon to run its global media business. Horizon will handle media strategies for "new initiatives that will build increased awareness of the church and its offerings" in the U.S., Europe and Russia, the church said in a statement. The assignment includes buying and planning for Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's book Dianetics.
Eurizon, the shop's Amsterdam office, will promote the Volunteer Minister Cavalcade, an annual Scientology promotional event that travels through 40 cities from London to Budapest.
Horizon was awarded the account after a review that included incumbent URI, Beverly Hills, Calif.; Corinthian, New York; and Interpublic Group of Cos.' KSL and Universal McCann, both New York. The business will be handled primarily out of Horizon's Los Angeles office. Billings have not yet been disclosed.
