Hotels.com Checks in at TargetCast

Web Service Hands Shop $68 Million Media Business

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Hotels.com has handed its estimated $68.4 million media account to independent TargetCast following a review, according to an executive familiar with the matter.

Other finalists were independent Horizon and Publicis Groupe's Optimedia in Seattle. The incumbent on the account, independent Doner, Southfield, Mich., did not defend, the executive said.

The Hotels.com media account is the latest in a series of losses for Doner, including Six Flags, Sylvan Learning Centers and La-Z-Boy.

Creative still in play
The creative business for Hotels.com -- also handled by Doner -- is currently in play, with finalists Saatchi & Saatchi (Publicis); TBWA/Chiat/Day (Omnicom Group) and Y&R (WPP Group) slated to make final presentations the second week of November.

New York consultancy Ark Advisors is managing both reviews.

Representatives for Hotels.com, Ark Advisors, TargetCast, Optimedia and Horizon could not be reached for comment by press time.
