SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- IHOP Corp., Glendale, Calif., is in negotiations with an agency for its anticipated $25 million advertising account, a company spokesman said.

to pick up the account after a review that included WPP Group's Y&R Cos., Irvine, Calif., and independent Venables, Bell & Partners, San Francisco.

Incumbent Heil-Brice Retail Advertising, Newport Beach, Calif., which held the account for a little over two years, did not participate in the review. Prior to Heil-Brice, Kirshenbaum, Bond & Partners West, San Franicsco, held the account for less than one year.

Losers notified
The IHOP spokesman said the losing agencies had been notified, but he would make an announcement when contract talks were finalized sometime this month.

The win would be a big boost for the McCann Los Angeles office, whose clients include Nestle USA's Nescafe Carnation brands.
