THREE INDEPENDENT SHOPS MOVE ON IN WAWA REVIEW

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Privately held convenience chain Wawa has narrowed its search for an advertising and media agency to three independent shops, according to executives familiar with the situation.

Wawa spent $5.1 million in measured media in 2002, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

Incumbents
Wawa’s incumbent agencies were MayoSteitz Media, Blue Bell, Pa., for media, and Ritter, King of Prussia, Pa., for creative. Ritter chose not to defend.

Select Resources International, West Hollywood, is the consultant. A decision is expected in mid-January.

The five shops dropped from the review were: Adworks, Washington, D.C.; Blattner Brunner, Pittsburgh; Gardner Nelson & Partners, New York; Gyro, Philadelphia; and McKinney & Silver, Raleigh, N.C.
