Isobar Nabs Global Digital Business for Sprite

Aegis Shop Beats Out AKQA, Which Had Handled Interactive Work for the Brand's 'Spark' Campaign Earlier This Year

NEW YORK ( -- Aegis digital-marketing division Isobar has been named global digital agency of record for Sprite, according to executives familiar with the matter. Despite an established relationship with independent digital agency AKQA, the San Francisco-based shop did not pitch the business.

Interpublic digital agency R/GA and independent Big Spaceship were also candidates at points in the pitch process. Coca-Cola, Sprite's parent company, did not immediately return calls for comment, and agencies referred calls to client.

AKQA handled interactive work for Sprite in 2006 and then again for the brand's first global push, "The Spark," this year. BBH will continue as Sprite's creative agency and will work with Isobar.

The digital unit, which was recently restructured to collapse acquisitions under the Isobar moniker, had an existing relationship with Coca-Cola brands. It's handled work for the Olympics in China and for Fanta in France.

Sprite launched the global campaign, which also included new packaging, after multiple quarters of sales declines. Coca-Cola spent $8.6 million for Sprite in U.S. measured media in 2009, according to Kantar Media.
