WASHINGTON MUTUAL NAMES BRAND AGENCY OF RECORD
Wolff Olins Gets Assignment as Bank Continues $100 Million Review
$100 MILLION WASHINGTON MUTUAL AD ACCOUNT IN REVIEW
Interpublic's Sedgwick Rd. Was Incumbent
The bank, in a news release, said it would not disclose the exact budget, but confirmed it “averages over $100 million a year.”
The Publicis Groupe agency will work with Wolff Olins, Washington Mutual’s brand agency of record, the company said. The company said both shops will work to strengthen the bank’s position as one that treats everyday consumers and small business with respect and caring service.
Washington Mutual's previous agency was Interpublic Group of Cos.’ Sedgwick Rd., Seattle. That shop produced a number of groundbreaking campaigns for Washington Mutual, including a series produced by Christopher Guest, director of pseudo documentaries. The spots showed “ordinary” banks stapling bar codes to customers’ foreheads, or charging them for every word in a conversation with bank tellers.
The other finalist in the review was Publicis West, Seattle. Select Resources International, Santa Monica, Calif., was the consultant.
