NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Two months after exiting McCann Erickson, New York, Faris Yakob has taken a post as chief innovation officer at MDC Partners, working alongside MDC "chief insurgent" Alex Bogusky at the holding-company level.
Mr. Yakob is one in a string of senior agency executives who have moved from McCann to MDC as of late. Most recently, he served as exec VP-chief technology strategist at McCann -- a post he held for less than two years, working on digital projects for clients such as Nikon and Kohl's. Before McCann, Mr. Yakob spent time at the Sydney and London offices of Naked Communications.
He starts the MDC role next week, based out of New York. Mr. Yakob is part of a growing "strategic resources group" the Toronto-based holding company is building to support MDC partner agencies, which include Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Vitro Robertson, Colle & McVoy and Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal & Partners.
Mr. Yakob describes the chief innovation officer position as a combination of thought leadership and improving the digital capabilities at individual shops. "I'll be responsible for bringing a digital viewpoint to everything" and "will be going around to extract best practices from each MDC agency, and cross-pollinating," he said.
MDC, which raised $300 million in capital late last year, has been on a hiring spree as well as an acquisition binge, buying up agencies in the public relations, events and data analytics spaces.
