MCCANN EXPECTED TO WIN INTEL $300 MILLION AD ACCOUNT

Interpublic Tops WPP, Omnicom for Chip Maker's Assignment

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Intel is expected to award to its $300 million advertising and media account to Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann WorldGroup, according to executives familiar with the matter.

Holding company review
In the holding company-level review, McCann WorldGroup beat out Omnicom Group's DDB Worldwide and a team from WPP Group. The incumbent holding company, Havas, was cut from the pitch earlier this year. Euro RSCG Worldwide worked on the account.

An Intel spokeswoman declined to comment.

The agencies involved in the review couldn't be reached for comment.

Last week, the agencies, expecting a decision, instead were asked for more information and were given a strategic assignment.

Intel is the world's largest computer chip company; its microprocessors are used in 80% of all new PCS sold today. Dell and Hewlett Packard are its largest customers.
