To Handle Media Buying for Software Maker

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Veritas Software, Mountain View, Calif., has awarded its $15 million media-buying account to Grey Global Group's MediaCom, New York, company officials said today.

Rene Bonvanie, vice president of corporate marketing, said the company, which is known for its software that backs up computers, aspires to be a major player on a par with tech giants such as Oracle and Microsoft.

Other contenders in the media review, which started with 20 firms, included Interpublic Group of Cos.' Universal McCann, New York, and Ageis Group's Carat USA, Los Angeles.

The company's incumbent was Interpublic's Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, San Francisco which handled both media and creative. Creative previously was awarded to independent shop Godfrey Q, San Francisco.

Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., handled the review.
