MDC Partners has hired former Harrah's & Caesars Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer David Norton to lead analytics and consumer insights across the holding company. MDC owns agencies such as 72andSunny, CP&B, Anomalyand KBS+.
It's an unusual role, but MDC is known for hiring talent at the parent-company level in roles that rivals don't typically have, such as a chief procurement officer.
Mr. Norton will be charged with optimizing MDC's analytics resources and helping drive clients' profitability. He spent 13 years at Harrah's & Caesars Entertainment overseeing areas such as CRM, loyalty, multicultural marketing, customer insights, VIP marketing and retail.
MDC President-CEO Miles Nadal said the hire is part of an effort to provide measurement and drive returns for major clients.
"Among David's great strengths is his first-hand experience uniting immediate results, long-term strategic vision and operational integration," Mr. Nadal said, adding that Mr. Norton will ensure "not only that the right analytics are being leveraged across channels, but importantly, that they are married with the businesses' operations to achieve true integrated customer engagement."
The move could signal that MDC, like rivals such as WPP and Interpublic, wants to offer more holding-company resources in new-business pitches. "While the majority of pitches are individual agency-led, MDC will continue to provide that synergistic approach when an integrated solution is best for the client," Mr. Nadal said.
"I see immense opportunity to build truly incremental value for an amazing set of clients," Mr. Norton said.
