First U.S.-Based Account for London Ad Agency's New York Office

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The National Basketball Association has selected the New York office of Mother for a creative assignment, according to executives familiar with the situation.

campaign promoting the NBA's playoffs and finals for the early spring. The NBA's regular season ends April 14 and playoffs start April 17.

Headquartered in London
This is the first U.S.-based client for the just-opened office of London-headquartered Mother.

Calls to Mother were not returned, and officials at the NBA declined comment.

Most of the NBA's creative is handled in-house through its NBA Entertainment unit in Secaucus, N.J. The NBA has in recent years retained outside agencies for project work, including Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, part of WPP Group. That agency continues to have a relationship with the NBA, according to knowledgeable executives.

The NBA spent $14 million in measured media from January to August 2003, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.
