Expected to Award Assignment Shortly; Impact on Incumbent Ogilvy Unknown

Published on .

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Motorola's senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Geoffrey Frost, has met with creative boutiques in the U.S. and Europe -- including 180
Amsterdam; Mother, London; Crispin, Porter & Bogusky, Miami; and others -- and is expected to award a branding assignment to one of them shortly, according to an executive with knowledge of the meetings.

The move could be the first step toward dismissing WPP's Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, which won the global account in 2000, although it is possible Motorola will retain Ogilvy or another global agency as a distribution network.

A Motorola spokeswoman, responding to queries about the agency meetings by Mr. Frost, said, "We don't comment on rumors."

Motorola spent $41 million in U.S. measured media in 2004, according to TNS Media Intelligence.
